7-30-15: Training Camp Report

GREEN BAY, Wis – The Packers officially opened up the 2015 NFL season Thursday with the first practice of training camp.

Injury Update:  LB Mike Neal, RB John Crockett, WR Ricky Collins were all placed on the PUP list prior to camp and did not practice.  Rookie CB Quentin Rollins is currently on the Non-football Injury list.  The second round pick pulled his hamstring working out two weeks ago.

WR Jared Abbrederis left practice after an awkward fall during an interception by LaDarius Gunter.  Head Coach Mike McCarthy said he didn’t believe the injury had anything to do with the torn ACL the Wautoma native suffered last season

Other Notes:  TE Andrew Quarless has no reported to camp yet due to an "extremely difficult family situation," according to McCarthy.  Quarless was arrested July 4th after he fired a gun following a dispute in Miami, Florida.

– McCarthy is a man of his word.  After giving up play-calling duties to take on more responsibility overall, the Packers head coach was seen working plenty with special teams and the defense during portions of practice he used to spend with the offense.

"Really the only thing that was different was not going into our two minute drill with the quarterbacks, really only staying with the special teams," McCarthy said.  "Pretty much with the defense in exchange periods as opposed to being in with the offense. I’m catching a live look at it, as opposed to when we go upstairs and watch it on video."

– Aaron Rodgers scoffed at the idea that at age 31 he needs to have his reps reduced at practice.

"I feel great, I’m not 35, 36, 37 or 38," Rodgers said.  "I don’t know what this pitch-count is all about.  I’ve iced my arm probably less than five times in my life.  Very happy with the gift I was given with this right arm and it doesn’t give me any problems."

What’s Next: The Packers return to the practice field Friday at 8:20 a.m.  The team will have its first padded practice Saturday.
