7-31 Packers Training Camp Report

The Packers held their second practice of training camp Friday at Ray Nitschke Field, lasting just short of 2 1/2 hours.

Injury Report: WR Jared Abbrederis suffered a concussion during Thursday’s practice and was not on the field Friday as he goes through the NFL’s concussion protocol. The Wautoma native is coming of a torn ACL that cost him last season, and has a history with head injuries. Undrafted free agent offensive lineman Matt Rotherham (ankle) was the only new player not on the field for the second day of camp.

News and Notes: Safety Morgan Burnett continues to start fast. He had two more interceptions today, to move his total to three already. The second INT came after Casey Hayward tipped a pass into the air. Hayward revealed today he had foot surgery in the offseason to repair a stress fracture, and that is why he missed all the previous offseason work.

– 1st round pick Damarious Randall made a few splash plays today including a great leaping breakup of a Matt Blanchard pass to Jimmie Hunt that showed off the former Arizona St. Sun Devil’s athletic ability.

– The Packers are limiting Josh Sitton’s reps. The veteran left guard has battled back and toe injuries and the team is just being smart with him. Don Barclay, J.C. Tretter and Josh Walker have been rotated in behind him.

– After spending his time doing drills with the inside linebackers Thursday, Clay Matthews was back with the outside linebackers on Friday. Rookie 4th round pick Jake Ryan took the first reps playing ILB in the nickel defense when Matthews switched to OLB

You said it: Head Coach Mike McCarthy on second day of practice: "First off, the first two practices, the things you pay really close attention to is the structure and the drill work, make sure things are done right. The players are competing in the first two practices, it’s gone well and I feel good about it. The efforts excellent, the energy is excellent. The workload is where it needs to be, so were off to a good start."

Right tackle Bryan Bulaga on being back after re-signing as a free agent: "I have a lot of great friends in this locker room, especially on this offensive line, and this is a great group to be around. This is a great team. I have the opportunity to block for probably tone of the best quarterbacks to ever play, and not many guys can say that. For me it was an easy decision."

CB Casey Hayward on DB’s having a good day vs. offense: "Especially going against A-Rod, Jordy, Randall, and those guys. We take these days when we can get them. It doesn’t happen a lot with ’12’ over there."

What’s Next: The Packers will have their first padded practice Saturday morning at 8:20 a.m. before the first off day of camp on Sunday
