Immigration policy debates have become a defining feature of U.S. politics, with recent discussions about refugee and legal immigration restrictions highlighting strong divisions among lawmakers and the public at large. How did we get here and what do these debates tell us about national belonging and what it means to be an American? Dr. Alise Coen’s presentation explores the evolution of U.S. immigration and refugee policy and what these policies reveal about changing constructions of American identity. This public lecture, in partnership with UW-Manitowoc, provides access to lifelong learning that enhances our lives and community. This program is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
